Alexandra Barbato - Flute
Alexandra Barbato, is an active performing flutist, pianist and organist. She holds a MM in flute performance from SUNY Fredonia with Dr. Susan Royal and a BM in flute performance from Nazareth College with Dr. Marjorie Roth.
Over her career Alexandra has developed a strong affinity for performing contemporary music. She has focused a great deal of her studies on contemporary flute techniques. She has premiered, performed, and recorded works by contemporary composers throughout the upstate NY region.
As a teacher, Alexandra works to help each student excel in their area of interest. Along with traditional flute playing, Alexandra teaches contemporary and extended flute techniques to her students. She uses these modern techniques to guide students in expanding their repertoire and musical styles, and also to develop their range of tools to support sound and tonal color. Popular and newer techniques are not often explored in a younger student’s education, however Alexandra feels the earlier they are explored, the sooner they can be used to create colorful performances.
Alexandra maintains an active independent career performing on flute, piccolo, and piano. She holds positions in several ensembles, notably she is flutist and board member of the newly formed Center Stage Symphony Pops Orchestra. She was the director of the Rochester Flute Association Flute Ensemble, has been a judge for the middle school flute competition, mock solo festival, and has served as a board member with the association since 2010.
